Amravati: 22,000 Beloved Sisters in the District Declared Ineligible in Verification!

0

Amravati: A shocking revelation has emerged from the verification process of Maharashtra’s much-discussed “Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin” scheme. As many as 22,000 women in the district have been declared ineligible for the scheme. Before the elections, the scheme was heavily promoted as a major benefit for women, attracting many applicants. However, after a stringent verification process, numerous women have been disqualified, leading to widespread disappointment and discontent in both rural and urban areas.

Amravati: 22,000 Beloved Sisters in the District Declared Ineligible in Verification!

What is the Scheme, and What Has Changed?

The “Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin” scheme was announced by the Mahayuti government just before the state assembly elections. Under this scheme, eligible women were promised financial assistance of ₹1,500 per month, which was later proposed to be increased to ₹2,100 per month. The scheme received an overwhelming response during the elections, with lakhs of women applying. However, once the elections concluded, the government tightened the eligibility criteria and initiated a thorough re-evaluation. As a result, 22,067 applications from the district have been rejected due to various reasons.

Reasons for Disqualification

During the verification process, multiple discrepancies were found in the applications. Some applicants provided incorrect information, while others had incomplete documentation. Additionally, some women voluntarily withdrew their applications, fearing legal action if they were found ineligible. Notably, many applications were rejected due to income limits, Aadhaar card linking issues, and other technical shortcomings.

Public Outrage and Government’s Stance

This decision has led to widespread dissatisfaction among affected families. Many women expressed their frustration, stating, “We were given hope, only to be declared ineligible later – this is unfair.” In response, the administration clarified, “The scheme’s benefits are meant strictly for eligible women, which is why a rigorous verification process was necessary. Those found ineligible can reapply with the correct documents.” However, many women are disheartened, as this process has resulted in wasted time and effort.

What Lies Ahead?

This controversy has raised questions about the credibility of the government. While grand promises were made during the elections, the post-election implementation has left many disillusioned. Some social activists have even labeled the scheme a “political gimmick.” It remains to be seen what corrective measures the government and administration will take in response to this backlash.

Kolhapur: Disabled Passengers Face Hardships for Ticket Booking at Chhatrapati Shahu Terminus

Kolhapur: In a distressing incident at Chhatrapati Shahu Terminus, differently-abled passengers faced significant difficulties while booking train tickets. Despite their special needs, they were forced to stand in long queues without proper seating arrangements or dedicated access routes. This not only caused them physical discomfort but also raised concerns about the insensitivity of railway staff towards them.

Kolhapur: Disabled Passengers Face Hardships for Ticket Booking at Chhatrapati Shahu Terminus

The issue came to light when around 42 differently-abled individuals arrived at the reservation office to book tickets for a pilgrimage to Ayodhya in April, organized by a charitable trust. Ideally, only two or three representatives could have handled the reservations using the organization’s letterhead. However, due to procedural inefficiencies, all 42 individuals were compelled to stand in line for hours.

With only two benches available in the office, most passengers had no choice but to remain standing. Furthermore, railway officials reportedly demanded color photocopies of disability certificates, rejecting black-and-white copies. Additionally, these passengers were often made to wait longer as general travelers were given priority.

Swati Gokhale, head of Avadhut Special School, confronted railway staff over their lack of empathy. Satish Jangde from the charitable trust highlighted that despite being a registered organization, they frequently faced unnecessary questioning from railway employees, adding to the mental stress of disabled passengers.

This incident raises an important question: When will railway authorities take genuine steps to ensure a dignified and hassle-free travel experience for differently-abled individuals?

Miraj: Pipe Inspector in Miraj Attacked with a Stone

Miraj: A shocking incident unfolded at the Miraj Municipal Corporation’s Water Supply Department when pipe inspector Swapnil Awale was brutally assaulted with a stone. Following this attack, the Miraj City Police have registered a case against the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ajit Pathrut, a resident of Miraj. In response to this violent act, municipal employees have strongly condemned the incident.

The assault took place amid ongoing preparations for the upcoming Ramadan Eid, during which the water supply department staff was diligently working at the Miraj divisional office to ensure smooth water distribution across the city. At that moment, Swapnil Awale was present at the office when an allegedly intoxicated Ajit arrived. In a fit of rage, he accused the officials of unnecessary theatrics before suddenly striking Swapnil on the head with a stone, leaving him seriously injured.

Instead of Cancelling, Extend Kalaburagi Express to Sangli: Travellers Demand Action Against Railway’s Arbitrary Decisions!

0

Sangli, February 28, 2025 – “Rather than scrapping it, bring the Kalaburagi Express to Sangli and add an extra coach!” This is the resounding demand from Sangli’s passengers and organizations as the Kolhapur-Kalaburagi railway faces yet another crisis. Blaming the railway officials’ stubbornness and refusal to extend the train to Sangli, commuters argue that the service is teetering on the edge. While some officials seem intent on cancelling it, travellers propose a smarter solution: extend the train to Sangli and boost its capacity with an additional coach. Amid this tug-of-war, whispers of a deliberate attempt to spark a Sangli-Kolhapur rivalry are growing louder. So, what’s the story behind this train, and why does it matter so much to Sangli? Let’s dive in.

Instead Of Cancelling, Extend Kalaburagi Express To Sangli: Travellers Demand Action Against Railway’s Arbitrary Decisions!
Instead of Cancelling, Extend Kalaburagi Express to Sangli: Travellers Demand Action Against Railway’s Arbitrary Decisions!

A Fascinating History Marred by Sangli Neglect

The tale of this train is nothing short of intriguing. Back in 2011, the first Kolhapur-Solapur train chugged along via Miraj. Had Sangli been included in this route from the start, it could have been a game-changer for residents, offering seamless travel to Pandharpur, Solapur, and Kolhapur. Priced at just ₹120 to Solapur, this train could have won over Sangli’s commuters in droves. Umesh Shah, a passenger organization leader, asserts, “Sangli alone could have sold 500 tickets daily. That’s how much this route means to the city and district.” Yet, the reality of travelling to Miraj to board—costing more than the ticket itself—kept Sangli out of the loop, and the train never gained traction here.

Official Stubbornness and the Pain of Closure

In truth, railway officials should have prioritized increasing passenger traffic from both Sangli and Kolhapur. Had they done so, the train might have thrived. Instead, the Kolhapur-Solapur service was abruptly shut down—a humiliating misstep for the railways. While Kolhapur passengers enjoyed the ride, Sangli was left in the lurch, an injustice felt by all. During former Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s tenure, demands for a Sangli-Solapur train via Miraj grew loud. But the Central Railway’s obstinate officials stuck to their guns, launching a Miraj-Solapur train instead. With no stop at Sangli, locals avoided the hassle of reaching Miraj, and the train floundered. Citing losses, the Railway Board eventually pulled the plug for good.

Sangli’s Bold Proposal: Don’t Cancel, Expand!

Now, with the Kolhapur-Kalaburagi Express facing a similar fate, Sangli passengers have a clear stance: don’t cancel it—extend it to Sangli and add a coach. The route to Solapur and Kalaburagi is convenient for Sangliites, and they’re confident the train would see strong support. “Why deprive Sangli commuters and kill the train just because of a handful of officials’ whims?” they ask, urging the railways to test this expansion. Meanwhile, Kolhapur passengers are raising concerns: “If it goes to Sangli, will it skip Kolhapur and become a Sangli-Miraj-Kalaburagi route?” No such plan exists, but the fear persists. The reality? If Sangli isn’t included, the Kolhapur-Kalaburagi train risks the same loss-driven fate as its predecessors.

Kolhapur-Solapur-Kalaburagi: A String of Failed Experiments

Ignoring Sangli, the railways have botched this route thrice already. Some Kolhapur organizations pushed to extend the old Kolhapur-Solapur train to Kalaburagi, a proposal Central Railway approved. Yet, two years on, the train struggles to attract passengers. Reports reveal at least 500 tickets go unsold daily—a clear sign of trouble. If this continues, the Kalaburagi Express could join the graveyard of Miraj-Solapur and Kolhapur-Solapur trains.

Sangli-Kolhapur Unity Over Rivalry

Passengers are now calling for unity, not division, between Sangli and Kolhapur. They urge organizations to join forces and resolve this mess. The railways must experiment with extending the train to Sangli—only then can this route survive and turn profitable. Will this demand be met, or will the Kalaburagi Express dream fade into oblivion? Time will tell.
