The state government is investing between Rs 5 to 7 crore on transforming each school into a cutting-edge institution with top-tier facilities.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled an ambitious plan to overhaul 500 government schools across the state, equipping them with modern, state-of-the-art facilities. The redevelopment work has already begun in several schools, marking the start of a significant transformation in the state’s education system. Sarma emphasized that this initiative will bring about a major shift in the quality of education in Assam.
Today, CM Sarma visited Palashbari High School in Guwahati, where he officially launched the redevelopment project aimed at upgrading the school with cutting-edge learning facilities.
He stated, “The state government is investing between Rs 5 to 7 crore to transform each school into a state-of-the-art institution. I firmly believe this will breathe new life into government schools across Assam, ushering in a transformative change in the state’s education system.”
CM Sarma had previously announced that the government is in the process of constructing 23 new medical colleges, with plans to begin work on three additional ones within the next year.
He stated, “For many years, there were only three medical colleges when Congress was in power. Now, we are constructing 23 medical colleges across the state, with plans to begin work on three more in the districts of Darang, Hojai, and Hailakandi within the next year.”
According to the CM, if one travels across the entire length and breadth of Assam, they will find at least one university in every district.
He mentioned, “We have set up universities in Hojai, Nagaon, Cachar, Bajali, and Lakhimpur. Nearly every district in the state either has a university under construction or is about to complete one.”
